Making a book
How long does it take to make one?
About two minutes of typing, then roughly a minute of writing. You will be reading chapter one within five minutes of arriving.
Do I need to be funny?
No. That is our job. You supply the facts (the job, the town, the hobby, the nemesis) and the book does the joke-making. Specific facts are funnier than clever ones.
What if I do not know much about them?
Only their name is required. Everything else is optional, and the story engine fills gaps with its own material. More detail makes a better book, but a thin brief still produces a complete one.
Can I change the genre after reading it?
Yes, as many times as you like, free, until you order. Regenerating rewrites the whole book from scratch with the new world.
The book itself
How long is the book?
Between 8 and 18 chapters depending on the length you choose: roughly a 60 page novella, a 110 page novel or a 190 page epic. The exact page count is shown on your preview before you order.
Is it actually readable, or is it filler?
It reads front to back with a proper plot: an ordinary life, a call to action, a disaster, a low point and a finale. Read the free preview and judge for yourself. That is exactly why it is there.
Is it written by AI?
It is generated, yes. A story engine plans and writes the book from your answers, and the illustrations are rendered from your photo. We are not pretending otherwise. The joke works because it is fast, enormous and specific.
How does the photo get used?
It appears on the cover and as a medallion inside each chapter plate. One clear, well-lit photo of their face is all you need.
Ordering & delivery
When will it arrive?
Printing takes two working days. UK standard delivery is roughly four days after that; express is two. Everything is shown before you pay.
Can I see it before it prints?
You read two chapters free before ordering, and the full book the moment you pay. Printing does not start until you have had the chance to look.
Can I send it straight to them?
Yes. Put their address in as the delivery address and add a gift message. The message is printed on the dedication page, not stuffed in the envelope.
What if something is wrong with it?
Tell us within 30 days and we reprint or refund. Personalised items are normally non-returnable, but a book with our mistake in it is our problem.
The awkward questions
Can I make one about someone without asking them?
For a gift, of course. That is the entire point. But only upload photos of real people who would be happy to be in a comic novel. Public figures, exes you want to embarrass, and anyone under 18 you are not the parent of are off limits.
How savage is savage?
Savage is a full roast: exaggerated flaws, no mercy, then a redemption. It never touches appearance, race, gender, sexuality, disability or anything a person cannot change. If you are unsure, pick cheeky.
Do you keep my photo?
It is stored so we can print and reprint the book, and deleted with the book if you delete it from your account.
